Stephane Audran (born 2 November, 1932) became an icon of European cinema in the late 1960s and 70s, playing coolly elegant middle-class French women who become embroiled in murderous intrigue in Claude Chabrol’s ‘Hélèlene cycle’ of top-notch psychological thrillers. With her luminous eyes, high cheekbones and refined manner, she became one of the best known faces of the New Wave generation of actresses.
