Oskar Werner (November 13, 1922 – October 23, 1984) was an Austrian actor known mostly for his acclaimed work in the theatre, until his performance as the romantic intellectual Jules in
Francois Truffaut’s
Jules et Jim (1962), made him an international star. He won an Oscar nomination for his role in
Ship of Fools (1965), and collaborated again with Truffaut on
Fahrenheit 451 (1967), after which his career faded.
