Cartoonist Joey Wellman (Adolph Green) travels reluctantly to Paris for an exhibition of his work. His real reason for making the trip is so that he can meet up with his daughter Elsie (Laura Benson) who has settled in the city, but she has little respect for her father and fails to make the rendezvous. By a quirk of fate, Wellman meets and is befriended by Christian Gauthier (Gerard Depardieu), a celebrated academic who Elsie reveres. Gauthier, it turns out, is an avid fan of Wellman’s strip Hep Cat, and invites him to spend the weekend at the family chateau. The same weekend, Elsie contrives to make a surprise entrance…
